"I include this as an historical anecdote only. Perish the thought that anybody would tamper with it in the West! This is a liquid infusion made from leaves of a hemp plant called marijuana. It is drunk on religious occasions such as Shiv Ralvi, to placate Lord Shiva, a quick-tempered god, in case he destroys the world with his third eye in a fit of pique. There is of course a statewide prohibition, but in Benares, considered to be the holiest place on earth by 600 million Hindus, this beverage made everyday in many temples, & is sold in stores & government shops ."~Terrance Cooper

On Dining Etiquette (IBN MUQAFFAR):
" My son, when you are invited to a dinner party do not glance too often towards the kitchen, nor pay too close attention to the direction from which the food will be appearing. Keep the reigns of restraint in hand: be master of yourself. Never be the one to reach out first for the food, nor consider it proper to begin before the others. Likewise, never be the last to withdraw from the platter lest you be judged gluttonous.
